As a therapist, I have a responsibility to keep perspective and balance as much as possible. This helps me be more available to help those who consult with me to find their own balance. One of the ways I keep balanced is by connecting my skills and experience as a therapist with other kinds of activities.
Current Activities
Therapists for Social Responsibility, a committee of Physicians for Social Responsibilty, Los Angeles brings together mental health professionals interested in connecting with other therapists concerned with social justice and connecting practice with social action.
Survivors' Truths is continuing to develop. I hope to be able to do a Los Angeles-based project soon--potentially with survivors of war in Central America.
The MOMS Club of Los Feliz has been a great way to meet other moms, get support, have fun, and support Project NATEEN, the local program for teen parents.
Areas of Interest
Social Documentary
The Survivors' Truths project came out of an interest in the stories people tell and the
impact those stories have on shaping individual and community
experience.
Social Justice
As a therapist, I have had the opportunity to see how much the context of a person's life can impact their mental health. Poverty, racism and other forms of discrimination, and economic inequality are all intricately tied with the emotional and relationship struggles of many individuals and families.
